Dover Police Chief Denounces “Unsubstantiated” Misconduct Claims, Vows Focus on Crime and Public Safety
Dover Police Chief Thomas A. Johnson, Jr. has issued a public statement addressing what he describes as a coordinated effort by a small group of individuals to discredit the department through unsubstantiated claims of police misconduct at Dover City Council meetings. Chief Johnson emphasized that these claims are largely based on hearsay and lack evidence, and accused the group of distracting from serious crime issues such as gang violence and youth offenders.
He argued that the department remains committed to professionalism, transparency, and evidence-based policing, and stated that activist efforts appear politically motivated following unsuccessful legislative efforts in 2023. Johnson reassured the public that Dover Police will continue to lawfully and effectively serve the community while addressing legitimate concerns through proper channels.
The Chief concluded by affirming the department鈥檚 focus on real public safety solutions and its refusal to engage in what he called “unproductive public argument.”
