UPDATED: Lewes Police Arrest 17 year old in Shooting Incident at Jefferson Apartments


UPDATED – 12/09/25 – An arrest has been made in a shooting incident at the Jefferson Apartments on November 28th. Police have arrested a 17 year old Ellendale resident who is charged with the following offenses: 

  • 1st degree assault – a class B Felony
  • 1st degree reckless endangering – 4 counts – a class E
    Felony
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony – 4 counts – a class B Felony
  • Criminal mischief over $5,000 – a class G Felony

The teen was arraigned by JP Court #7 and subsequently committed to the Stevenson House State Detention Facility in Milford in default of $141,000 bail.

During their investigation, Lewes Police learned that the suspect fired 30 rounds from an assault-type rifle from the parking lot directed at a second floor apartment and left the scene in a silver vehicle. A 10 year old who was near a window in the apartment suffered a gunshot wound and was flown to AI DuPont Children’s Hospital for treatment. Four others were asleep in the apartment when the shooting occurred and were not struck.

ORIGINAL STORY – 12/01/25 – Lewes Police are investigating a shooting that injured a juvenile inside an apartment at the Jefferson Apartments on Kings Highway in Lewes. Police say multiple gunshots were fired towards a single apartment building just after 1 Friday morning, November 28th. A juvenile inside the apartment sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
