According to the Delaware State Police Department, the incident occurred around 12:46 a.m., Monday as troopers were dispatched to the 23000 block of German Road in Seaford for a shooting.

Troopers arrived and located a 40-year-old man who indicated that he had been shot. He sustained a single gunshot wound, according to police, and was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Further investigation into the incident revealed that the victim was walking on German Road near his home when three unknown African American males got out of a vehicle, approached him, and requested money.

When the victim said he didn’t have any money, one of the suspects pulled out a gun and pointed it towards him, police said. The suspects forced him back to his home where they physically assaulted him and prevented him from leaving.

The suspects then proceeded to ransack the residence looking for money. One of the suspects fired a round into the ceiling of the home. The victim was able to flee through the back yard, at which time he heard shots being fired and was subsequently struck by one round.

The three suspects were described as African American men, between 25-29 years of age.
