Office of Highway Safety’s “Sober Rides” Initiative Returns for the New Year’s Eve Holiday

The Delaware Office of Highway Safety (OHS) is encouraging Delawareans to celebrate the new year safely by offering its annual New Year’s Eve Sober Rides program. Spokesperson Caitlin Reed tells the Talk of Delmarva…

The initiative provides free $20 ride-share vouchers for Uber or Lyft to help prevent impaired driving during what is statistically one of the most dangerous nights of the year. New Year’s Eve consistently sees an increase in impaired driving crashes, injuries, and fatalities. From 2020 through 2024, 310 impaired driving crashes occurred in the period from December 15th to December 31st along with 17 impaired driving–related fatal crashes in Delaware.  Voucher claims are open Wednesday, December 31st at 3 p.m. and are valid from 5 p.m. on the 31st through Thursday, January 1st at 3:00 a.m. In terms of availability, vouchers are released at intervals throughout the day.  To learn more about the Sober Rides program or to claim a voucher, visit MySoberRides.com.
