UPDATE: Route 54 Crash Tuesday Leaves 2 Dead; Victims Identified

The Delaware State Police have identified 22-year-old Veronika McCoy from Berlin, Maryland, and 77-year-old Douglas Bachtell from Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, as the two people who died in the two-vehicle crash yesterday near Selbyville. The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant information is asked to contact Master Corporal K. Argo at (302) 703-3264. A crash just before 8am Tuesday left two people dead. Delaware State Police say a Camaro driven by a 22 year old Berlin woman was eastbound on Lighthouse Road/Route 54 near New Road near Williamsville. For unknown reasons she crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Hyundai Santa Fe driven by a 74 year old Selbyville man.

Police say the driver of the Camaro was taken to an area hospital where she later died. A 77 year old Pennsylvania man who was a front seat passenger in the Santa Fe was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was hospitalized with critical injuries.
