Scammers are once again impersonating the Social Security Administration in Sussex County, making phone calls and leaving voicemails claiming your social security number will be blocked if you don’t pay up.

A Bethany Beach resident reached out to WGMD News, providing us with the following voicemail of a digitized voice claiming that the person would have their social security number would be blocked.

Social Security Scam Voicemail left for a resident in Bethany Beach, Delaware

“In order to connect with a Social Security Administration officer, press one now,” the computerized voice said. “In case we did not hear from you, your social will be blocked permanently.”

This is nothing more than a scam. The Social Security Administration will never call you and make threats. If you receive such a call or voicemail, hang up or delete it.

Many of these scams are difficult to investigate, according to the Delaware State Police Department. They will target all age groups.

If you suspect you have been a victim of this scam, please contact your local law enforcement agency or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
