State Police Obtain Arrest Warrant for Georgetown Man After String of Hit and Runs

Delaware State Police have obtained an arrest warrant for a Georgetown man after multiple hit and run crashes Friday evening east of Seaford. Police were called to the area of Old Furnace Road near Middleford Road around 7:30pm and learned a Jeep Comanche sideswiped a pickup stopped on Old Furnace Road at the intersection of Middleford Road.

The Jeep sped off on Old Furnace Road and at Coverdale Road – backed into the front of a Camry – and continued eastbound.

At Cokesbury Road the Jeep crossed the center line and collided head on with a Ford Fusion. The driver of the Fusion was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. No one in the other vehicles was injured.

The driver of the Jeep, 36 year old Angel Morales-Ortiz of Georgetown showed signs of impairment and was flown to an area hospital with serious injuries. A search of the Jeep turned up open containers of alcohol and troopers learned Morales-Ortiz’s driver’s license was suspended. When released from the hospital, Morales-Ortiz will face the following charges:

  • Vehicular Assault First Degree (Felony)
  • Leaving the Scene of a Property Collision Accident – 2 counts
  • Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol
  • Driving While Suspended or Revoked
  • Multiple Related Traffic Offenses
