WGMD Fishing Report 10-10-19

bill-o

Wednesday saw gale warnings up and they will remain until at least Friday.  Seas will stay above five feet right through the weekend on the ocean and will be at least three feet on Delaware Bay.

Once again saltwater fishermen will be hard pressed to find a location to wet a line.  The Indian River Inlet and the Lewes and Rehoboth Canal are always options as are the fishing piers at Cape Henlopen State Park and Massey’s Landing.

The final rule on summer flounder and Atlantic bluefish has been issued by NOAA and it appears we may get away with the same regulations for 2020 we have in 2019.  Summer flounder are not overfished and overfishing is not occurring.  When this happens, the result is usually no change in regulations.

The bluefish recreational harvest limit will be reduced because some of our previous quota will be shifted to the commercial sector.  This is because we have not filled our quota for many years.  That is because we release more blues than we kill.

This is Eric Burnley with your WGMD fishing report.
