WGMD Fishing Report 4-20-18

Hermann-Financial

Thursday was cold and wet with gale warnings flying on the bay and ocean.  Once we get through Friday the weather will improve and I think at least a few boats will sail.

The changes we have talked about covering summer flounder and black sea bass are now official.  The black sea bass season will run from May 15 to December 31 with a 15-fish limit and a minimum size of 12.5 inches.  Summer flounder will see a one half inch drop in the minimum size from 17 to 16.5 inches.  The season will remain at 365 or sixty six days with a four-fish bag limit.  It is not often that we get a reduction in regulation restrictions and I for one am glad to see this improvement.

I wish I could give you encouragement for fishing the ocean this weekend, but with the water temperature stuck at 49 degrees I don’t think the tog will be snapping just yet.  It is possible we could see a few flounder caught from the Canal, the Cape Henlopen Fishing Pier or Indian River Bay.

This is Eric Burnley with your WGMD fishing report.
