WGMD Fishing Report 5-28-18

Mike Lewis of Ocean View, DE caught and released this rather large black drum while fishing one night up in the Delaware Bay off of Cape May, NJ using surf clams. The fish was estimated to weigh around 40lbs.

As predicted, Sunday was a bit damp with very little sun and that kept the number of fishermen down from the crowds on Saturday.

Dave at Lighthouse View tackle on the pier at Cape Henlopen State Park told us there was a bite of big blues from the beach east of the pier early in the morning during the rain storm.  Only a few guys braved the storm and when the rain stopped, so did the blues.  During the rest of the day some keeper flounder were caught from the pier on jigs baited with Gulp!

John at Dan’s Tackle said black drum have been caught at the Coral Beds with late evening into dark the best time to fish.  Clams remain the best bait.  One customer had a good catch of kings to go along with their drum.

Smith Bait also reported good black drum fishing on the Coral Beds.  Parker Smith, who is 12 years old, caught a 68 pounder on Saturday night.

Old Inlet Bait and Tackle told us the rockfish bite during the early morning hours has been a slow pick for the past few days.  Successful anglers are casting black or purple Bombers or SP Minnows.
