WGMD Fishing Report 5-8-18

Monday was an almost perfect day, except on the ocean where small craft advisories flew and will be up again on Tuesday.  Due to this, no boats sailed from Lewes or Indian River.

Black drum continue to be caught from the beach.  One of the nicest catches I have seen came into Fenwick Tackle where the Hallowell men, Mason, Neil and Jackson all caught good-sized keepers.  They used clam and fished the drive-on beach at Fenwick Island.

Old Inlet Bait and Tackle said they had reports of big blues at Cape Henlopen State Park.  These fish were caught from the ocean beach.  I also had reports from Lighthouse View Bait and Tackle that big blues were caught from the fishing pier and the beach alongside the pier on Cape Henlopen State Park.

Old Inlet also told us about the good run of hickory shad that have been coming through the Indian River Inlet on incoming water.  Shad darts and small spoons will catch these fish and you can use light tackle.  Shad are also a lot of fun on fly fishing gear.

This is Eric Burnley with your WGMD fishing report.
