WGMD Fishing Report 6-29-19

Friday was another great summer day.  The fishing remained pretty much the same, but we do have a warning for all you surf fishermen out there.

I know some of you like to target big toothy sharks, but Jay Katz from Seaford found out the hard way that is not a good idea.  Park Rangers followed a tip received from within the Delaware Seashore State Park and charged Mr. Katz with catching and removing from the water a prohibited shark species.  In this case, a sandbar shark.  This happened on June 11 at Three Rs Road.  Mr. Katz was released, with his surf fishing permit suspended, pending an appearance in the Court of Common Pleas in Georgetown at a later date.  It would be a good idea to check DNREC’s Fish and Wildlife regulations before targeting sharks from the surf.  It would be a better idea to leave the sharks alone.

Dave at Lighthouse View Tackle on the fishing pier said they have been catching spot two at a time.  A few kings and flounder have also been taken.

This is Eric Burnley with your WGMD fishing Report.
