WGMD Fishing Report 7-19-19

Thursday was another hot one and there is no relief in sight until next week.

So long as we continue to get winds from the southwest the heat is not the only thing we will have to contend with.  Bugs have had a very good reproductive spring with more than enough standing water to breed hoards of offspring.  These flies, gnats and mosquitoes are just waiting for us to come in range before pouncing on our blood-filled bodies.  The only defense is DEET bug spray and lots of it.  I have tried some of the other remedies like Skin-So-Soft and these local bugs lap it up like a kitten does milk.

Some people wear long sleeves and pants, but in this heat, I just can’t do that.  Besides greenheads can bite right through most material.  If you plan to be outside anywhere from the beach to the canyons take at least two cans of bug spray with DEET and good luck.

This weather has decreased the number of people fishing from the pier at Cape Henlopen State Park although those who brave the heat are still catching spot at high tide.

This is Eric Burnley with your WGMD fishing Report.
